House Democrats Turn Of Lights On House Republicans But Republicans Refuse To Give In

In one of the most immature things the dems have done, Speaker Nancy and other house Dems, turned off the lights and microphones when house Republicans were discussing oil prices and an energy plan. However house Reps with everything turned off still kept talking:

"Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and the Democrats adjourned the House, turned off the lights and killed the microphones, but Republicans are still on the floor talking gas prices.Minority Leader John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) and other GOP leaders opposed the motion to adjourn the House, arguing that Pelosi's refusal to schedule a vote allowing offshore drilling is hurting the American economy. They have refused to leave the floor after the adjournment motion passed at 11:23 a.m., and they are busy bashing Pelosi and her fellow Democrats for leaving town for the August recess.
At one point, the lights went off in the House and the microphones were turned off in the chamber, meaning Republicans were talking in the dark. But as Rep. John Shadegg (R-Ariz..) was speaking, the lights went back on and the microphones were turned on shortly afterward.
But C-SPAN, which has no control over the cameras in the chamber, has stopped broadcasting the House floor, meaning no one was witnessing this
except the assembled Republicans, their aides, and one Democrat, Rep. Dennis J. Kucinich (D-Ohio), who has now left."

Finally the Republicans are starting to show some backbone. I am not surprise that house Democrats were trying to silence Republicans on this issue. That just tells me that Democrats are for high gas prices. After all the worse the economy the more Dems can blame this on President Bush and get their messiah elected. Even though the economy took a turn for the worse when the Dems took control of congress.

Uhm… didn’t the republican do this when they were in power? They refused to allow committee meetings in open rooms, forcing Dems to hold them in the basement, in rooms not setup with mics so CNN couldn’t show coverage? Do you recall when Sensenbrenner pulled the same thing on a hearing on the Patriot Act when people actually showed up for it (despite his scheduling it for 9am on a day Congress wasn’t in session…) You may even recall under Clinton when they took recess without passing a budget, and put government across the country on minimal “shutdown” funding. Ring a bell?

Cry me a river… The republicans were blocking every bill they could the past 2 years with filibusters, and now they’re crying they need more time to fix things? What about that decade they held the majority?

This is a political ploy, and a poor one at that. Beating the system to death when you’re in power, and the crying fowl when the new majority dishes some back at you is akin to the school yard bully crying when someone finally punches him back. It’s not something to be impressed with, it’s something to pity.

Here's a second link from the NY Times when the event happened in 2005. In case you didn't want to read the RS article.

Yay right. The Democrats promised everybody that they would change congress and do something. But you know what for the past four year they haven't done anything and now they want a five week vaction for doing nothing. Hello we have a gas price and engry crisis that need to be taken care of. And no thank you. I refuse to read that fish warp of a newspaer that complain that there wasn't enough died soilders to take pictures of.

Four? You need to take basic math again. The last elections when Dems took the majority was in 2006. It's now mid-2008. So, not even 2 years yet by my (correct) math.

And of course they're not getting much done because they don't hold 2/3rds of the house or senate. They barely have a majority. Add to that the Republicans have been putting holds on bills, doing filibusters on everything, and have Bush vetoing everything that gets through. (All those require a 2/3rds majority to pass beyond or override. The Republicans had 2/3rds in the house from 2000 through 2004, btw.)

In the past 2 years (not 4), the Republicans have put more holds on and filibustered more bill then the Democrats did in the past 10 when Republicans were in control. Remember when the Republicans were screaming about removing the rules on filibusters in 2003? Their tune has changed quite a bit now that they're in the minority.

Btw: Just because you refuse to read and educate yourself about the facts doesn't mean it didn't happen. Fact is, the Republicans have done this and worse. Before your time, Newt (who is now on the floor yelling about how irresponsible the Dems are) literally shut down the house and left for recess without passing the federal budget under Clinton. They literally left and had no funds to pay federal workers their salaries for their 5 week recess.

The Dems left after a roll call that showed they didn't have 2/3rds to override the hold placed on the energy bill by a Republican representative. Plus, even if it passed, Bush has said he will veto it if it doesn't have provisions for opening up ANWR (and the Senate Bill doesn't.) So how super important is it to have an energy bill if Bush is going to veto it for not having his specific pet project in it?

Opps my bad with the math then however the dems refuse to pass a engery plan. If the dems don't do something before the election then they are dumber than I thought.
Obama has already flipped somewhat, depending on the day and what group he is talking to, making tons on the left furious.

Also when the republicans were in power of congress when inpeached President Bill Clition was president, we stop Hillary's ambombantion of a Health Care Plan, expose the Monica Lewinsky scandal, exposed the Whitewater scandal, oh and tryed to cut back Bill Clition's tax's hikes.

Your out of your leauge pal.

Wow... so you're all about them wasting millions on things (Lewinsky "scandal", Whitewater, etc) that were all found to be baseless. You do realize that in each of those cases, the courts found that the law was not broken, right? Nobody went to jail for Whitewater, and Clinton wasn't impeached. Millions wasted. And you're proud of that?

Oh, and as for the "dems" not passing an energy plan, it's not the dems holding it up. It's the Republicans that have placed a block on the bill in the senate, which means the house can't act further on it. And when the Dems tried to override it, they didn't get the 2/3rds needed.

So who's blocking the passage of an energy bill? Now that you have real news stories (one from Dallas news, and the other from a right-wing blog praising the Republicans for blocking the bill), that show Republicans were blocking it just last week, knowing a recess was coming?

That must make you feel kinda dumb, doesn't it?

Dude you are a idiot. All those baseless claims were TRUE and their are pleanty of facts to back it up. I am really getting sick of you you fat moron. You are out of your league with me plus you have serious mental promblems if you come on my blog everyday to harass me and to "try to make me see the light". Dream on. I like it here on the dark side. All of your claims are nothing but made up in your own little fantasy world. Get lost, you are out of your league, you live in your own fantasy world you fat moron. By the way it was the dems that when on a five week vacation while the republicans were ones trying to come up with a energy plan.
